From Bush to Beach is a seasonal podcast exploring sustainability in Africa through living systems such as soil, water, forests, oceans, and coral reefs. Created by two hosts whose lives and work are deeply rooted on the continent, the podcast shares grounded conversations, research, and lived experience to understand what sustainability looks like on the ground beyond quick fixes and simple solutions.
Vanessa is a marine conservation researcher and storyteller with a DPhil from the University of Oxford in ocean research and conservation. She is the co-founder and director of Ngoteya Wild, a conservation and wildlife film company based in Arusha, with a marine unit in Dares Salaam. Vanessa serves on the board of WASIMA and is a co-founder of the Tanzania Wildlife Media Association Her work bridges science, community, and media, from coastal monitoring to marine mammal research, with a deep commitment to sustainabilitv and regenerative
Ina works at the intersection of climate, behavior, and systems change. With two decades of experience across Sub-Saharan Africa, she has designed and led nature-based solutions, regenerative agriculture, and carbon projects for global institutions and local communities alike. Trained in psychology and neuroscience, Ina focuses on why well-intended initiatives often fail to last and what it takes to design change that actually holds. She lives in northern Tanzania with her family, where many of the questions explored in this podcast are part of everyday
